With time the icon of St. Nicholas grew and the food of St. Nicholas celebrated on December 6th, your day he died. St. Nicholas’ endless pension as Santa Claus evolved over many centuries whilst the legend of St. Nicholas was carried over to surrounding countries.

Dutch and German settlers produced the basic ideas of what might become Santa Claus to the New World. The Dutch had Sinterklaas and the Germans had Pelsnickel and Christkindl and both celebrated the feast of St. Nicholas. In 1822, Dr. Clement Clark Moore left the longest lasting effect of the jolly ol’ person with his story, “A Visit from St. Nicholas”, greater referred to as “The Night Before christmas tree png ” ;.He established that Santa existed in the Artic with a traveling sleigh taken by nine reindeer. He defined Santa as having ‘a wide experience, and a little circular stomach, that shook when he laughed like a bowl full of jelly.”

Thomas Nast explained covers for Harper’s Regular in the late 1800’s and by request of President Lincoln was commissioned to make a specific Xmas image for the cover. This started an annual convention for Nast who used the ability to mould Santa to his liking. Nast created the typical Santa suit, his house at the North Post and the picture of him putting around a list of naughty or nice.
