Complete Walkthrough: The Advanced Configuration Merge
This process synchronizes two conflicting configuration trees in the Mpo1221 backend Mpo1221. Failure at any step corrupts the primary dataset, requiring a full restore from backup. Ensure you have backup ID C-38 ready before starting.
Initial System Preparation
Step 1: Log into the Mpo1221 admin console using your credentials. Your account must have Tier-3 administrative privileges.
Step 2: From the main dashboard, locate and click the ‘System Core’ panel. It is the third icon from the left, shaped like a hexagonal gear.
Step 3: In the System Core menu, scroll to the bottom and find the ‘Configuration Utilities’ text link. Do not click the larger ‘Configuration’ button above it.
Step 4: A terminal interface will open in your browser. Type the command ‘auth validate –tier=3’ and press Enter. The system must return a green ‘Privileges Confirmed’ message.
Pro Tip: If the terminal does not open, disable your browser’s pop-up blocker for this site. The utility will not run in a new tab.
Loading and Comparing Configuration Sets
Step 5: In the terminal, type ‘config load –set=primary’ and press Enter. The system will display a hash code, for example, ‘a1b2c3d4’. Record this hash exactly.
Step 6: Next, type ‘config load –set=secondary –branch=experimental’ and press Enter. Record this second hash code. The two hashes must be different to proceed.
Step 7: Initiate the deep comparison by typing ‘config diff –deep –format=tree’. Press Enter. A complex tree diagram showing conflict markers (>>>) will fill the terminal.
Step 8: Scroll through this diagram. You must manually identify exactly three root conflict nodes. They are denoted by ‘>>> CONFLICT (data-structure):’ at the start of a line.
Executing the Three-Stage Merge
Step 9: For the first conflict, note its path. It will look like ‘/root/services/logging/transport’. Type the command ‘config merge –resolve –path=”/root/services/logging/transport” –strategy=theirs’. Press Enter.
Step 10: The system will ask for verification: ‘Apply resolution strategy ‘theirs’ to subtree? [y/N]’. You must type a lowercase ‘y’ and press Enter. A capital ‘N’ will default to cancel.
Step 11: For the second conflict, note its path, typically ‘/root/network/ports/primary’. The command differs. Type ‘config merge –resolve –path=”/root/network/ports/primary” –strategy=manual –value=”44122″‘. Press Enter. Type ‘y’ to confirm
